FLAVORING
and flavour blends

Originating with master syrup maker Théodule NOIROT in 1898, LBDV perpetuates his legacy with our expertise in blending aromatics.
We are specialists in the creation and formulation of flavours for a variety of uses including food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and household applications. Our teams of flavourists support manufacturers to develop attractive flavors and fragrances, meeting consumer expectations and manufacturing requirements.
Our flavour developments are bespoke. Our flavourists and marketing & business development teams support manufacturers through turnkey projects: from receiving the brief to delivery of the active ingredient.

Our primary aims

1. To create flavors

Formulation development: LBDV can support you in the creation of new flavor formulations by combining different natural and/or synthetic aromatic substances.

Research & development: our teams of flavourists constantly seek to innovate by developing unique and original flavors that stand out on the market.

2. Sensory analysis

Sensory tests: at LBDV, flavorists first carry out sensory tests to assess the olfactory and flavor properties of the flavorings they offer to manufacturers.

Assessment: then, at the second stage, they assess the quality of the flavors in terms of taste, smell, and acceptability to consumers.

3. Research and Development (R&D)

Market studies: flavorists, alongside their marketing & business development teams, analyze market trends and consumer preferences to guide the development of new products.

Collaboration: we work in collaboration with research and development teams, product managers and process engineers.

4. Application and uses of flavors

Integration: we integrate flavors into various product matrices, whether they are drinks, food products, perfumes, cosmetics, or pharmaceutical products.

Stability: using aging tests, they ensure that the flavors are stable and maintain their characteristics in the finished product, throughout its lifespan. Flavour aging testing is a crucial process for evaluating the stability and longevity of flavors in various products over time. This test makes it possible to ensure that the flavors maintain their quality and organoleptic characteristics throughout the life of the product.

5. Regulatory compliance

Regulation: we ensure that the flavors developed comply with local and international food safety regulations, permitted ingredients and levels of use. This ensures that the flavors used are safe for consumption and use, meet quality standards, and are labelled correctly. Flavors must comply with the regulations of the countries in which they are marketed.
- Regulation (EC) No. 1334/2008 on flavorings and certain food ingredients with flavoring properties establishes a list of authorized flavourings and sets out conditions for their use.
- Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 establishes the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Documentation: our teams of flavorists prepare and maintain the necessary documentation to prove the compliance of flavors with the safety standards and regulations in force.

6. Optimization of costs and economic viability of the project

Efficiency: we work to optimize the costs of producing flavors while maintaining their quality and performance in order to best meet the specifications of our customers.

Sourcing: we research and select high quality raw materials at competitive prices. The quality of flavor sourcing at LBDV is essential to ensure the safety, consistency and performance of final products. We define high-quality sourcing, select the right raw materials, establish relationships of trust with suppliers, and ensure that all practices meet sustainability and social responsibility standards.

7. Flavour quality control

Quality control: flavorists participate in the quality control of flavorings, by ensuring that each batch respects its defined specifications (visual inspection and certification documents: certificates of analysis (CoA), material safety sheets (MSDS) and traceability documents provided by suppliers.)

Tests: we carry out routine tests to verify the consistency and quality of the flavors produced. Analytical tests are also carried out: purity and composition tests, physico-chemical tests (measuring pH, refractive index, density and other physico-chemical properties).
